Parents in Saudi Arabia who look for English lessons for their children online usually want the same few things: a teacher who is patient with a young learner, someone who can explain in Arabic when the child is lost, lesson times that fit around school, and a price they can see before they pay. This page is the English summary of how Yalla English works for children, with every number we publish, an honest look at the other formats parents weigh up, and the questions worth asking any provider before you pay. The full Arabic page for parents, with a dated comparison of named kids' platforms, is at /kids.

What a lesson looks like for a child

Every lesson is live and one-to-one: one teacher, one child, on a video call. There is no recorded course to sit through and no group where a shy child can hide at the back. The lesson is held in English, and the teacher explains in Arabic only when your child gets stuck. For a beginner that matters a great deal: a seven-year-old who does not understand an instruction gets it in Arabic in a few seconds instead of losing the rest of the lesson.

The Basic plan lesson is 25 minutes. That length is deliberate. Younger children lose focus long before an hour is up, and five short lessons a week build a habit that one long weekly class rarely does. Older children and teenagers who can concentrate for longer often move to the 50-minute Premium lessons.

Your child can join from a phone, a tablet or a laptop using the free Zoom or Google Meet app. The camera is optional and audio only is fine, which many families prefer. Lessons are not recorded.

Ages and teachers

We have no minimum age. The youngest students we teach today are 7. Each child is matched with a teacher who specialises in their age group, so a young child is not taught with material written for adults. Every teacher speaks Arabic, most hold a TEFL or TESOL qualification, and two teachers' documents are published in full on our About page.

To be plain about who teaches: our teachers come from Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Indonesia and elsewhere. None of them is from Saudi Arabia at present. You can ask for a female or a male teacher on the signup form, and once your child is matched, the same teacher continues for every lesson. Children open up to a teacher they know, and the teacher remembers exactly where your child left off.

Fitting lessons around school

You agree the five weekly lesson times directly with your child's teacher, in Saudi time, in the morning or the evening. Lessons usually run Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday normally off, so they sit alongside the school week rather than eating into the weekend.

Children get ill, have exams and go to family events. If you cancel at least 4 hours before a lesson, that lesson is not counted: the lessons left in your package stay exactly the same. We do not book make-up lessons.

How the other formats compare

Parents in Saudi Arabia usually choose between four kinds of online English for children. Each has a real advantage; the question is which one fits your child.

FormatWhere it helpsWhat to watch for
Group classesLower price per hour; some children enjoy classmatesSpeaking time is shared, and a shy child can stay silent for a whole class
Pay-per-lesson tutor marketplacesWide choice of teachers, pay as you goPrice varies by tutor, the teacher can change from lesson to lesson, and many tutors cannot explain in Arabic
Long prepaid packagesA fixed course planA large payment up front, before you know whether your child gets on with the teacher
Monthly one-to-one (our model)The same teacher, 5 short lessons a week, one published monthly priceNo trial lesson before paying; the 7-day refund from the first lesson takes its place

Our Arabic page for parents, /kids, compares named providers (51Talk, Cambly Kids, Novakid, OpenTalk, Salwa Academy and British Council Kids) on age range, lesson language, trial terms and published price, with the date each page was read.

Six questions to ask any provider before you pay

  1. Will my child have the same teacher every lesson, or whoever is free?
  2. Can the teacher explain in Arabic when my child does not understand?
  3. Who decides the lesson times, and what happens if we cancel?
  4. Is the monthly price published, with VAT included, before I pay?
  5. Does anything renew or charge automatically?
  6. If it does not work for my child, when exactly does the refund window start, and is payment only through a proper checkout?

Our own answers are all on this page: the same teacher, yes in Arabic when needed, times agreed with the teacher, a lesson cancelled 4 hours ahead is not counted, 249 or 499 SAR including VAT, nothing automatic, and 7 days from the first actual lesson through checkout only.

Frequently asked questions

There is no minimum age. The youngest students we teach today are 7. Each child is matched with a teacher who specialises in their age group, and the 25-minute lesson on the Basic plan is short enough for a young child to stay focused.

Yes. Every teacher speaks Arabic. The lesson itself is held in English, and the teacher switches to Arabic only when your child is stuck, so a beginner is never left lost and an older child still spends the lesson in English.

249 SAR a month for 5 one-to-one lessons a week of 25 minutes (20 lessons, about 12 SAR each), or 499 SAR a month for 50-minute lessons. Both prices include VAT and nothing is added at checkout.

There is no trial lesson before paying. The first lesson works as the trial instead: if it is not right for your child, you get a full refund within 7 days of that first actual lesson, on a first subscription, back to the same payment method within 3 to 7 days.

Yes. We have male and female teachers, and the signup form asks which you prefer. The same teacher then continues for every lesson, so your child does not have to start over with a stranger.

You agree the five weekly times directly with the teacher, in Saudi time, morning or evening, usually Sunday to Thursday. Cancel at least 4 hours ahead and that lesson is not counted, so the lessons left in your package stay the same. We do not book make-up lessons.

No. A phone or tablet with internet is enough, and lessons run on the free Zoom or Google Meet app. The camera is optional; audio only is fine. Lessons are live and are not recorded.
